Kenton School is at the cutting edge of modern education. With just under 1800 students, we are amongst the largest schools in the North East. However despite our size we pride ourselves on retaining a family atmosphere and in ensuring that we cater for the needs of all our students, recognising their special gifts or talents.

At the heart of this is our pastoral team and an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly competent specialist to join us in the role of Sixth Form Student Leader, supporting our sixth form students through their school experience and preparing them for life beyond school.

Covering the maternity leave of the current postholder, the post will involve working alongside teachers, colleagues and other professionals, to ensure students are achieving their full potential. In addition to providing information, advice and guidance and supporting students with their progression routes including university, job or apprenticeship applications, the successful candidate will also support students to address any pastoral issues or barriers to learning and provide a wide range of enrichment opportunities such as university visits.

With experience working in either education, social care or another children’s sector pastoral role, if you are the person we are looking for you will possess demonstrable knowledge of post-16 education opportunities, university and UCAS application procedures, and other avenues open to post-16 school leavers.

Your knowledge of the key issues affecting student welfare, behaviour and attendance will be combined with excellent interpersonal skills to not only challenge and support students, but to motivate and inspire them. You must possess excellent administrative, organisational and IT skills with a flexible approach to work.

In return Kenton School offers fantastic developmental possibilities due to its size, facilities and a forward thinking management and staff working together to offer the best available chances for our students.

If you feel you have the experience, skills and attributes to succeed as part of our team, you can visit our website www.kenton.newcastle.sch.uk or email us for an application pack at hr@kenton.newcastle.sch.uk.

Closing date: 12 noon on 20 June 2019.

Kenton Schools Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in all our schools and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
